Fall in love with the world around you. This program will have you:

out in the field and garden processing food and medicine,

in the kitchen whipping up herbal treats, and
in the classroom learning the foundations of herbal medicine - including Ayurvedic energetics and herbal safety.

LEARN:

the history of herbalism/modern medicine

how to use herbs safely, including appropriate dosage

the importance of plant conservation

how to use herbs based on their herbal energetics (hot/cold, damp/dry), taste (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, astringent), and herbal actions (styptic, anodyne, carminative, diuretic, etc)

basic botany and plant identification on wild plant walks

how to grow, harvest, and process herbs

how to match an herb to a person not a disease through understanding the doshas or the energetics of constitution

how to make and use herbal preparations, including infusions, decoctions, tinctures, salves, compresses, pills, and oils

how to use aromatics, bitters, and tonics daily to improve health

how to manage stress with the help of nervines and adaptogens

how to optimize digestion, which is the core of health

how to cook with medicinal and culinary herbs (including how to make coconut fudge and herbal chocolates)

herbal first aid

TAKE HOME:

over 100 pages of herbal handout PDFs; two herbal posters; a season's worth of homemade herbal medicine, including tinctures, herbal vinegars, oils, salves, pills, flower essences and more; herbal bodycare products including lotion bars, body butters, and toners; several audio recordings; and a certificate
